Asterisk highlight
Asterisk is a free GPL licenced software implementation of a PBX. As any other PBX it allows to make telephone calls to other telephones direcly connected to the Asterisk but of course also to the the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Asterisk was first created to run on Linux but nowadays it also runs on: OpenBSD, Mac OS X, Windows. Features as voice mail, hunting groups, call forwarding, conference calling, automated call discribution, IVR, call attendend, music on hold and many others are standard features that are included in every basic Asterisk distribution.
