Asterisk highlight
Asterisk is an open source software implementation of a PBX. As any other PBX it allows to make telephone calls to other telephones attached to the Asterisk but of course also to the the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). It was originally developed for Linux but nowadays there are also versions for: OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Sun Solaris, Mac OS X, Windows. Features as voicemail, hunting groups, automated call discribution, conference calling, music on hold and many others are standard features that are included in every basic Asterisk distribution. Thanks to the fact that Asterisk is released under GPL license there are many modules available which can bring even more features to your Asterisk server.
