In a world of ever changing technologies and evolving communications requirements, it's difficult to stay current, and in touch with your customers. Telecommunications is the key to profit, and the most basic link in communication is your business telephone system. The standard type of system is the "Private Branch Exchange," or PBX. In the world of telephony, these powerful and technologically advanced devices are the foundation of it all. It can be difficult to determine what sort of business phone system you need, though.
In general , home telephone systems are easy to make a decision on, with not many options and a small amount of carriers to decide upon. That is no big surprise, for individual use, there is not really a lot of wide variety regarding necessary functions or advanced abilities.
Like with everything else, the business world moves at a different rate. This really is one of those decisions which usually changes every thing, determining your ability to grow with long term requirements and expansion, your means to make use of the power of the net as part of your communications network (with technologies such as Voice over ip,) and your capacity to remain bulletproof and safe from services failures, with products such as power supply backup UPS systems and remote administrative capacities. To give you a sense of just how essential these features can be, consider exactly how your business is impacted by this.
Employee salaries are the price of doing business. However, paying someone just to answer phones, or taking time away from an otherwise skilled employee to perform this menial task is really a waste of funds. You'll be glad to know that most of the same features can be overseen by many of the business phone systems these days, both cheaper, and better than a human. At the most basic level, these "Auto Attendant" features includes options such as allowing your users to navigate a (potentially huge) menu system, reach specific extensions or access information recordings. Maybe someday we'll even have a PBX that will brew a pot of coffee...
More interesting are auto-dial capabilities, which can be used to provide a wide array of useful functions. At the most basic level, many of us associate PBX auto-dialing with robo-calls, or telemarketing. However, the systems can do much more than that, with tasks like sending text messages to cell phones automated for informative personal, departmental, or company-wide alerts and notices. Recordings or messages can be delivered as well, and many packages even provide text to speech for reading messages to the recipient, such as crucial e-mails, news or stock alerts, and more.
If you'd prefer not fit a PBX into your business's physical location, there are hosting options available. Rather than installing a machine to service your business, a hosted PBX is a standard business phone system, hosted and managed by a provider. Often times, this can drive down your costs, and allow for a quick roll out, with little or no equipment needed at your places of business. Calls can easily be routed to other numbers as well, such as cells and home phones. The advantages do come at a price though, with much of your system being tied up remotely, which can become a nightmare should you later switch to a local system. Transferring everything from menus to voicemail to extensions to the new system can become difficult.
Modernizing your current system, or installing your first, it doesn't matter. Upgrading your business phone system to harness the power of the current offerings is a no-brainer. Delving into the features provided by today's PBX systems is exciting and can bring huge rewards in terms of increasing your business's capabilities, productivity, and overall ability to communicate, whether it be with customers, or inter-office communications.
