If you're considering an up-to-date phone system, one does need to make sure that you examine the different options available as well as get expert advise and phone system prices from multiple different providers. Make sure you take advantage of our Ohio Alcatel Lucent dealer quote tool below to get prices from several different companies within your local Ohio market.
Because of the communications needs these days, it's hard to stay current, and in touch with your potential customers. Communication is the key to profit, as well as the most important portion of that is your business telephone system. The standard type of system is the "Private Branch Exchange," or PBX. These advanced systems are the foundation of it all. It can be difficult to determine exactly what sort of PBX you need, though.
It is not like selecting your long distance provider or cellular phone. In those markets, your options are usually limited and it is mainly one size fits all.
But a PBX is an completely different decision. Companies have numerous different requirements and specific desires when it comes to communications. This is one of those decisions that changes every thing, influencing your ability to grow with long term requirements and business expansion, your means to leverage the power of the internet as part of your communications network (with technology such as Voice over ip,) and your capacity to remain bulletproof and safe from services outages, with things such as power supply back-up UPS systems as well as remote management functionality. To give you a sense of just how critical these features can be, consider just how your business is impacted by this.
Hiring an operator or receptionist is often times unnecessary, or just unfeasible if you have too many incoming calls. The same tasks performed by receptionist on the phone can be overseen by many of the current PBX systems. At the most basic level, these "Auto Attendant" features includes options such as allowing your users to brows through a touchtone activated menu, reach specific extensions or access information recordings. Maybe someday we'll even have a phone system that will brew a pot of coffee...
More interesting are auto-dial capabilities, which can be used to provide a wide array of useful functions. At the most basic level, many of us associate PBX auto-dialing with robo-calls, or telemarketing. However, the systems can do much more than that, especially when blended with modern technology. For example, sending text messages to cell phones automated for informative personal, departmental, or company-wide alerts and notices. Voicemail from important numbers can be forwarded instantly, and many packages even provide text to speech for reading messages to the recipient, such as crucial e-mails.
Modern software has seen a flood of high quality open-source development, and the PBX market is no exception. The "Asterisk" project is a suite of high powered, feature rich software PBX tools, very popular with many businesses. The software runs on a standard PC, along with specialized interface cards to connect you to the outside telephone system (including everything from standard telephone lines, through ISDN or T1 lines.) Features are rich, including robo-dialing, auto-operator menu systems, voicemail, voice over IP, and much more.
However, if you go this route, you'll either need to administer all of this yourself, or hire an expert to setup and administer the system for you. The software can be difficult to install and configure without experience, requiring a good deal of time to familiarize yourself with it.
"Can you hear me now?" isn't just a concern for your mobile phone. Making sure you're able to keep in touch around the office, and with the outside world is a very real and serious demand of modern business. Your selection of a business telephone system will ensure that you're not only able to keep voice communications flowing, but will also allow seamless integration with other modern technology, keeping your business agile and responsive to the market's demands. Hopefully some of the topics mentioned here have given you some food for thought, while determining what you really need.
